Our first Death & Rebirth Initiation Retreat in Asheville, NC was an exquisite, transformative threshold into an energy of remembering and beholding the light of our beings, in ourselves and one another. I will post the place and date for our next retreat soon. In the meantime, this is a little taste of what to expect. Words cannot express how deeply my heart and soul were touched—and forever transformed—by the Death and Rebirth Initiation Retreat facilitated by Mary Lane and Serena Hausen. It is rare to find teachers, mentors, or facilitators who embody, with every breath, such a seamless blend of wisdom, authentic personal sharing, and deep love. Their presence felt intimate and real—rooted in trust and confidence in our ability to find our own way once the teachings and transmissions were offered.
The harmony between Mary and Serena was exquisite—filled with grace, care, and genuine affection for one another, for Spirit, and for each of us. It is difficult to articulate the exquisite nature of this experience. What I can say is that I truly feel reborn—to the beauty and light of my own being, and to the luminous world around me.
Before arriving, I felt some trepidation, imagining the process would be heavy or fear-laden. I was wrong. Who knew that death and rebirth could reveal such radiant lightness within us all?
Mary and Serena are powerful, wise, and deeply caring beyond words. They guided us with grace and mastery—holding space without forcing, supporting without interfering. Every process, every moment, reflected their extraordinary attunement and attention to detail. I experienced it all as big love—and this time, I wasn’t separate from it. I was part of it all.
By the end of the retreat, we were each forever changed. For me, there is now a deeper connection to my own light, a renewed love and appreciation for my humanity—including my imperfections. That’s something I’ve long sought, and it’s finally here, inside of me.
Having walked through great shadow in my own life and work, I thought I knew the way. Wow—was I wrong! I was reborn into a new way of walking through this world—one that welcomes the experience of both dark and light as love, hand in hand. And death and rebirth are no different! Partnering with the light even as we traverse the shadows is a truth I will carry in my heart, body, and mind forever.
Both Mary and Serena prepared for every aspect of this journey—with grace, intimacy, and devotion. Their care for every detail, combined with their trust in divine guidance and the authentic embodiment of it, made this retreat the absolute chef’s kiss 💋 of sacred experiences. I leave inspired to bring this light and love into the world and to share it with everyone I meet.

Death & Rebirth Initiation Retreat is inspired by ancient Goddess and ancestral wisdom, aligned with the intelligence of the natural world, as well as personal experience. It is designed to set in motion a deeper journey of releasing ourselves from the collective fear of death, and rebirthing ourselves into a frequency of love.
The initiation retreat is followed up with rituals, and energy practices to continue integration.
This retreat is an initiation. An experience moving through death, the void, and rebirth through the portals of the soul, and celebration of the sacredness of it all, together, as a force of energy for our personal and collective evolution.
There was a time when death, and rebirth were woven into our consciousness as sacred passages to prepare for, and embrace throughout life as a sacred offering to Mother Earth, the cosmos, and our communities. So long ago that many can’t even imagine it. Over time through a paradigm fueled by fear and separation, the collective field of energy has become thick with the fear of death. Many of us are releasing ourselves from this paradigm, and along with it the fear. But, in order to do that with death and rebirth, we have had to reach waaaay back in order to move forward.
Every first and last breath taken has the potential of feeding love, or more fear into the collective field, effecting the good of the whole. Walking through life embracing every birth of the new, and death of the old, prepares and supports us to consciously take each first and last breath of the phases in our lives with curiosity, and wonder. Our eventual death of our bodies mirrors how we walked through life, and we have the potential of leaving with our last breath infused with love, and holy awe as a sacred offering.

You will be sent home with an infused sacred stone for ritual use, written rituals, and energy practices for integration of initiation, as well as a practice that supports you to release and receive.
We will provide a simple nourishing vegetarian dinner all three evenings. Participants will bring their own lunch, and arrive after their own breakfast

Mary Lane is author of books, Divine Nourishment, the novel Meena, and Plant Medicine for End-of-Life Care. She spent years as a chef, devoted student of Mother Earth, and mentor for women releasing themselves from the patriarchal paradigm, and seeing themselves through the eyes of the natural world. Most recently in the past decade, as an elder, she has focused on healing our relationship with death. She is the creator of Restoring Sacred Reciprocity of Life & Death online course, Surrendering to Life, Death, & LOVE 9 month program, as well as providing plant spirit essences for people’s evolution, reads, and offers Akashic Records consultations.

This may include soul retrievals and entity extractions. She also assists people in their dying process to help them to heal or release what is possibly holding them back and supporting them to let go and to ascend.
